Ethical Frameworks for Temporal Reparations: A Philosophical Analysis
Dr. Marcus Williams
Published: September 12, 2024
DOI: 10.QTI/williams-ethics-2024
This dissertation addresses the profound ethical questions raised by the possibility of temporal consequence modification. While the technical feasibility of such interventions continues to advance, the moral implications demand equally rigorous examination. I propose a comprehensive ethical framework grounded in principles of justice, non-maleficence, and historical responsibility. The framework consists of four key components: (1) Consent protocols for temporal interventions, (2) Impact assessment methodologies, (3) Stakeholder representation mechanisms, and (4) Reversibility safeguards. Particular attention is given to the concept of 'temporal reparations' - the use of consequence modification to address historical injustices. Through case study analysis and philosophical argumentation, I demonstrate that such interventions can be ethically justified under specific conditions, provided they adhere to strict procedural safeguards and prioritize the autonomy and wellbeing of affected parties. This work contributes to the emerging field of temporal ethics and provides practical guidance for researchers and policymakers navigating these unprecedented moral territories.
